1994 XR7 Electronic Transmission Prob

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For 2 years my 1994 XR7 V/8 has been jumping out of OD momentarily and
revving in neutral. I know this problem has been reported but I've seen
no solution. I have done a search on this forum.

The oil has been changed twice with the proper fluid. The only thing
that makes it happen less often is shutting the car off for 10 minutes
and then driving. Makes it hard to diagnose at a shop when this happens.

The vehicle only has 50k on it and sits for long periods of time. The
last guy that looked at it said that the seals were dry and he'd rebuild
the whole transmission, not a great answer.

Does anyone, or has anyone EVER fixed this problem? I'm totally lost!
I've heard range sensor, accumulator and Vacuum Sensor. Nobody seems to
have ever fixed one though.

Can ayone help an old man out

Hello, is that a 302 Cougar? If so then it's got an AO
in it, AODE if it's electronic. In either case there is an OD serv
like all overdrive transmissions. The Supercoupe Thunderbird had th
largest OD servo installed by Ford, called the "A" servo
The three parts required for that go up into any AOD by dropping th
pan and R&R'ing the OD servo piston, spring, and cover. In th
AODE it has a different part group, but there is a better serv
available than what you have

Officially the best answer is to install one of two valve body kits
TransGo makes both a correction type kit and a heavy dut
"shift" kit. Choose the one for your needs. The OD servo i
a wise upgrade to make if you have issues with OD. The valve body i
still the likely problem

With any age(years) on the electronic AOD's, it is very wise also to
replace the EPC valve, and other electrical solenoids when a proble
occurs. I suggest spending the $200-$300 for the better parts, an
having the valve body gone through. That parts cost and the labor i
much cheaper than a rebuild, and with that low mileage may give yo
many years more life from the car

FYI, use Mercon V, not the Mercon original fluid, that is old an
obsolete now. Good luck
